Success of the Assembly of Sostre Cívic: forging a more feminist and sustainable future

Nearly 150 members of the cooperative participate in the General Assembly deciding the immediate future of Sostre Cívic.

Important steps forward were taken to consolidate our co-operative housing model and promote equality and sustainability: with the approval of the Protocol against gender-based violence and ratifying the 2025 Strategic Plan.

Last Friday, June 30, in the afternoon, we held the Ordinary General Assembly of Sostre Cívic at the headquarters of Social Hub of Barcelona. This is our most important annual corporate event and the basis of the operation of our cooperative, where the 1200 members are invited to participate, regardless of their membership category: members of projects or groups (in coexistence or development), expectant members and working members. It turned out to be quite a success of participation. Nearly 150 people, active members of the cooperative, participated in person and virtually to forge our immediate future during the 19 points that were on the agenda of the meeting.

All these items on the agenda of the Assembly they were approved by a large majority, demonstrating the strength and unity of our social base. It should be mentioned that, in order to promote the previous debate, the open participation spaces before the Assembly have been very positively evaluated: in May we held the first Meeting of Partners, which among other sessions was dedicated exclusively to present the main assembly debates, and the Open Space, an online session called a week before to be able to present beforehand and resolve doubts about the items on the agenda.

One of the most anticipated and highlighted moments on the agenda was thefinal approval of Protocol against sexist and LGBTI-phobic violence. This protocol aims to prevent and address situations of gender violence in all areas of our organization. With this decision, we are taking a firm step in the fight against gender and LGTBI-phobic violence, creating a more equal and safe working and living environment for everyone. In order to guarantee that the actions and actions contained in the Protocol are carried out and that there is a monitoring and evaluation of them, a permanent commission has been created made up of a team of sensitized and trained people in the field of violence You can find the Commission's Protocol and information here.

Other important points to highlight from the Assembly was the ratification of the 2025 Strategic Plan, which will guide our growth in a sustainable and sustained manner, establishing clear objectives to consolidate our cooperative housing model as an alternative to access the right to housing. Following one of these objectives, we also presented a new cooperative called "Llindar SCCL", which is a new financial instrument driven by Habicoop, the Federation of Housing Cooperatives of Catalonia, of which we are also founders. The objective of this new cooperative is to facilitate access to the financing of housing cooperative promotions in right of use through guarantees, and to reduce financial costs for members.

In addition to the internal aspects of the cooperative, we gave impetus to several projects. We voted in favor of issuing equity securities for the project of La Xicoira in Olesa de Montserrat, who is about to start living together. We also approved the establishment of up to four new cooperative housing projects, including the acceptance of lots in Granollers (for theEl Cairó) of the Sant Andreu, as well as the purchase of properties in Sant Hilari Sacalm (for the senior project of Solterra) and a farm in Lleida, by means of the estimation and retraction method. These projects, so different from each other, are a new demonstration of our growth model offering cooperative housing opportunities throughout Catalonia for various audiences. Nowadays, ja we manage 560 homes from 25 projects, 12 of which are already in coexistence with 150 homes.

In the General Assembly we also formalized strategic alliances with other entities of the Social Economy, encouraging the mutual cooperation, and the movement for the right to housing. We approved collaboration agreements with We are Mobility, to strengthen our projects of shared mobility in cooperative housing, with Suara Services, a third sector entity with which we have been collaborating for some time to accompany the design of the care services of our senior co-housing and with the Ethical Finance Foundation, who have invested 30.000 euros in capital of the cooperative through the impact fund for the strengthening of the ESS with Barcelona City Council. The agreement with the was also approved Union of Tenants, which will mean strengthening the link between both entities, and between the movement in defense of the right to housing and cooperatives in the right of use.

Forging a fair and sustainable future through cooperative housing

The General Assembly of Sostre Cívic it was a unique opportunity to connect between the different members of the cooperative, share ideas and make important decisions for the future of our organization. With the participation of nearly 150 people, it was an example of the strength of our horizontal and assembly organizational base, where all voices are heard and play an important role in the decision-making process.

Especially with the points of approval of the Protocol against sexist and LGBTI-phobic violence, the Strategic Plan 2025 and the alliances with other entities, we are forging a promising future for Sostre Cívic. We work to build a fairer, feminist and sustainable environment, continuing at the same time to offer cooperative housing solutions to people of different social backgrounds and origins.

We appreciate the participation of everyone who attended or participated online, and who thus contributed to the success of our General Assembly. With your support, we will continue to fight for a better future by promoting decent housing for all. We continue to work together to achieve our goals and transform the social reality through cooperative housing in right of use.
