Juanjo's eviction has been stopped, but today was avoidable

It is necessary to formalize the sale of your home to guarantee a definitive solution through the cooperative formula.

  • This morning, May 28, the eviction of Juanjo, a resident of Ciutat Meridiana and member of the Tenants' Union, was stopped for the second time. The suspension was possible thanks to the organization of the Union, the neighborhood mobilization and the presence of dozens of people who gathered in front of his home.
  • For weeks, the property owner considered selling the home as a viable option to avoid eviction. Since Sostre Cívic We received the proposal and responded by presenting a formal purchase offer under the conditions demanded by the property.
  • As of today, we have already inspected the home, we have drawn up a project for the necessary adaptations, we have the financing agreed by the Catalan Institute of Finance and we have submitted all the required documentation for weeks. All that remains is the signature of the property to formalize the sale. and avoid another eviction.
  • This operation is part of the strategy of Sostre Cívic to mobilize private assets and place them in collective hands, through formulas such as tender and withdrawal or direct purchase with the support of public tools. In this specific case, it is also framed in a collaboration between the Tenants' Union and our cooperative to explore the cooperatization of struggling blocs, with the aim of protecting tenants from market logic and pressures to guarantee them stable, decent and affordable housing.
  • Avui Sostre Cívic manages 550 homes in different phases, with nearly 200 already inhabited in 14 buildings. Of these, almost 90 have been mobilized from the private market to collective ownership., consolidating a cooperative housing model that has proven to work.
  • We call on the property to take the final step and sign the sale. There is a consensual, viable proposal ready to be executed. We must prevent this process from ending, once again, in an eviction that can be avoided.
