The works of the project of La Balma continue according to the forecasts! You can now see the wholefinished wooden structure: five floors rising above the concrete ground floor, with four homes per floor. Apart from the 20 homes planned, there are also common and shared spaces that want to enrich community life, coexistence and strengthen ties with the neighborhood.

There is still a long way to go, but every step is very exciting: it is exciting to see how so much previous work materializes! This new stage, that of the construction of the structure, started last March 16, when the necessary prefabricated plywood panels arrived. It was 6 months ago we had celebrated the start of the project with a great party in which we were joined by different entities from the social and solidarity economy and cooperative housing.
Guided tour to find out the status of the project
To share this very special moment and experience first hand the different phases of the construction of this cooperative building in the Poblenou neighborhood, we have organized a guided tour with the members of La Balma and the people of the technical team and the Governing Council of the entity.
For an hour we walked through all the floors of the building and imagined how the different community spaces will look and the intended use for all of them. Multipurpose room, library, treatment room, laundry... the core of the building consists of the staircase and an elevator, and each floor includes a community space of variable size and use.

The building has a compact design with a energy rating A, and active and passive strategies will be implemented to achieve a reduction in energy demand, savings in consumption and collective management of energy production.
The building's facilities are fully centralized with production through a geothermal system for hot water and heating. the centralized facilities they feature a powerful and optimized system that distributes water to the floors without the need for individual accumulators, thus reducing costs and maintenance.
Next visits planned
After the summer, from September, we will start organizing guided tours open to all members of Sostre Cívic, and also to the general public and other entities of the social economy and cooperative housing.
Getting to know a cooperative building under construction from the inside is quite an experience where you can learn about sustainability, or architecture and ecological materials; but also about collective organization of space and relationship with the environment. In short, other more communal ways of living and to understand housing!
