
Last Friday we kicked off the works ofEl Cairó, the first project ofcooperative housing in right of use in Granollers. This building will have 29 official protection homes i shared community spaces, promoting a non-speculative and stable model of access to housing. In addition, the project has a funding of €900.000 from the Next Generation Funds.



The event was attended by representatives from Granollers City Council and the Housing Agency of Catalonia. According to Sergi Fernández, Councilor for Housing of Granollers, El Cairó is the result of a municipal commitment to cooperative housing and has become a reality thanks to European support and collaboration with Sostre Cívic.
For his part, the director of the Housing Agency of Catalonia, Miquel Bagudanch, stressed the importance of promoting models that guarantee the right to housing and break with the dynamics of the speculative market.
An accessible and environmentally sustainable cooperative housing
El Cairó Construction is already underway on a municipal plot at Carrer Rosselló, 97, provided by the City Council through a 75-year renewable surface rightThis formula allows for the development of stable and affordable housing through a model of public-cooperative collaboration.
The building is designed with high energy efficiency and environmental sustainability criteria, incorporating photovoltaic panels, aerothermia and gray and rainwater recycling systemsIn addition, it will have community spaces such as collective laundry, bicycle and shared car parking, guest rooms and a multipurpose room open to the neighborhood.

If you want to be part ofEl Cairó, it must be partner of Sostre Cívic and meet the requirements of the Register of Applicants for Officially Protected HousingRegistrations are open until April 21 through the official project website: elcairo.sostrecivic.cat.
