The Olesana Mining Community, a historical entity of the Social and Solidarity Economy of the Baix Llobregat region, has become a collaborating partner of our cooperative.

We continue to work spreading the news cooperative housing project in right of use in Olesa de Montserrat! Despite already having a driving group that has been working there for weeks to spread the initiative in the municipality and its surroundings, there are still places left to join the project: a half-built building owned by a real estate fund, recovered from the speculative market, to locate 25 complete homes and large collective spaces for the whole community.

Alongside the work of presenting the project to the municipality and finding people interested in participating in the driving group, we also work to form alliances with the social fabric of the territory and encourage mutual cooperation. Along these lines, from this February, the Olesana Mining Community has become a collaborating partner of our cooperative.

A benchmark for its commitment to the territory

The Olesana Mining Community is a historical entity of the Social and Solidarity Economy of the Baix Llobregat region. Was founded in 1868 by a group of people from Oles worried about the sanitary conditions of the neighborhood and the source of diseases that was the water in times of drought, when it was taken from the wells at home. The objective was to be able to have running water in the houses and with guarantees of healthiness for consumption. In 1993 the Olesana Mining Community was transformed, by the will of its members, into a Consumers and Users Cooperative, and currently is responsible for the collection and supply of potable waterand throughout the municipal area of ​​Olesa de Montserrat, in accordance with the award of the concession with the City Council.

Today the Olesana Mining Community is an example of a cooperative system of mixed water management guaranteeing public management participated by the users themselves. As a line of action, it also collaborates with the Ateneu Cooperatiu del territorio to promote and encourage cooperativism and the social economy, and received the COOPCAT 2020 award in the "Commitment with the territory" category, granted by the Confederation of Cooperatives of Catalonia.

Social housing recovering disused private heritage

In this way, the Olesana Mining Community supports our new cooperative housing project, which will improve access to housing in the municipality.

We remember that recently we have substantially improved the economic conditions of the project: thanks to obtaining bank financing from the Catalan Institute of Finance and a subsidy from the Housing Agency of Catalonia, the initial capital contributions required to enter the project will be below €10.000, and the fees monthly are between €400 and €690.
