Open doors of our cooperative homes during the 48h Open Coop House 

The weekend of October 25 to 27, Sostre Cívic organizes the 48h Open Coop House, a parallel event and in collaboration with the festival of 48h Open House Barcelona. A great opportunity to get to know first-hand our cooperative housing projects in right of use that we are promoting and that have been in coexistence for years. This weekend we will offer guided visits to various projects in Barcelona, ​​Olesa de Montserrat and Sant Cugat del Vallès. At all visits the members of Sostre Cívic they will open the doors of their homes to us and tell us how the process worked to take the project forward and what their day-to-day life in the community is like.

La Balma is one of the emblematic projects of Sostre Cívic, located in the heart of Poblenou on land given by Barcelona City Council. This cooperative building of 20 homes and 6 floors, designed by The cabbage i LaBoqueria and raised by La Constructiva, has been built with sustainability and energy efficiency criteria, prioritizing community spaces for the collective life of its inhabitants. From 2021, La Balma it is an example of affordable housing in an area of ​​strong real estate pressure, promoting an alternative and equitable housing model.

Cirerers (Roquetes, Barcelona)

This building is part of the official program of the Open House festival. Registrations to visit it are made directly on the event website from Monday 21 October.

Cirerers is one of the largest cooperative projects of Sostre Cívic, located in the Roquetes neighborhood (Nou Barris, Barcelona). the building, in coexistence since 2022, it has 32 homes with communal spaces and, with eight floors, it was the tallest building in the State built with wood. The block also includes an urbanistic contribution (adapting to the environment and taking advantage of the building's community space) and an environmental commitment (passive building with minimal energy demand). The architects of Celobert they will participate and guide the visit.

La Xicoira (Olesa de Montserrat)

La Xicoira it is a unique initiative because it recovers an abandoned building since the bursting of the real estate bubble in 2008, which already had the structure, basements and exterior walls built. Sostre Cívic acquired it in 2021, i since October 2023 the partners already live there. The design is from The Baula and STEM, and the works of La Constructiva. The work has focused on improving the building already built with better distribution of the homes and accessibility, also energy efficiency and the increase in insulation, centralized installations, and photovoltaic panels, and work on the finishes of the housing for the entrance to live. It is the largest coexistence project of these characteristics in the country, outside of Barcelona.

Clau Mestra (La Floresta, Sant Cugat del Vallès)

  • Sunday 27 October from 11.30 a.m. to 12.30 p.m. and from 12.30 p.m. to 13.30 p.m.

Clau Mestra it is built on the old houses of the town's teachers and they have developed 11 cooperative homes, in addition to a collective space, under a sheltered housing regime at an affordable price. After many years of struggle, the partners moved in very recently, in March 2023. The design of the new homes is of Zaga architecture i Som Hàbitat. The comprehensive rehabilitation and extension of the property has allowed access to all the homes and increased their surface area. Bio-building systems and materials, such as wood, as well as highly efficient passive and active installations have been used. The works have been carried out by La Constructiva and, in addition, the group of partners and neighbors of Clau Mestra they participated in some of the rehabilitation tasks in the form of assisted self-construction. The end result is a building that serves as an example to demonstrate that a construction system allows for more sustainable consumption than conventional methods.

We will visit the site of Can 70 with the project partners and the architecture team, and then we will go to the site of Sant Andreu to also learn about the new project.
