We present the guide "Care in the coexistence of elderly people"

On February 26 we presented to the auditorium of Calabria66 the sixth guide in the "Construïm Habitatge Cooperatiu" collection, designed to offer practical resources on different topics related to collective housing projects.

At the event, which was attended by more than 120 attendees, participated:

    • Sonia Fuertes, Social Action Commissioner of theBarcelona City Council.
    • Lluvi Farré, social psychologist and predoctoral researcher at CareNet research group from the Open University of Catalonia.
    • Anna Corrons, from the Llavor group Can 70.
    • Laia Teruel, responsible for the development of projects and opportunities in the areas of adults a Suara Cooperativa.

A guide that collects the experiential perspective of Can 70

This guide is born from the concerns of Can 70, one of the senior seed groups of Sostre Cívic, made up of elderly people who want to live in a community and are considering one active old age with self-management of care and their future needs.

The first part of the guide (from the first chapter to the fourth) addresses the construction side of the coexistence and care model. The definition of this model is specific and unique in each project, and it only emerges after slow and intense work by the group of people who build their coexistence project. For this reason, this part of the guide goes beyond offering a series of practices and tips.

Far from presenting a "typical" model of how care and coexistence should be, the guide collects the experiential perspective of Can 70, their approaches and conclusions, so that the reader can take topics of debate, guidelines and methodologies to address the different issues. In no case, therefore, is it expected that a new group can copy the findings of Can 70, but that these serve as an example to open debates.

On the other hand, the second part of the guide (the fifth and sixth chapters), objectively presents the technical and logistical issues. In this case, different aspects are described so that the reader has the information and can act accordingly.

You can watch the video of the full presentation below:

Inter-cooperation between entities of the social economy

This guide has been made possible thanks to the collaboration and work from many people from different fields, and also from various entities of the social market in Catalonia.

Regarding the writing, Suara has been in charge of the fifth chapter, related to the economy of care; and Lluvi Farré Montalà and Daniel López Gómez (de CareNet) and the group Can 70 of the writing of chapters 1 to 4. Finally, the design and layout was done by the cooperative l’Apòstrof, and the print, The Green Leaf, SCCL.

Very soon we will present the rest of the guides in the "Construïm Habitatge Cooperative" collection on different topics related to this alternative model of housing: legal framework, relationship with the environment, group care... for now, book in the afternoon on Wednesday, April 1st!
