Palamós: the participatory process for the architectural design of the project begins

The first cooperative housing project of new construction of Sostre Cívic in the Girona counties keep moving forward! Yesterday the group of project of Palamós has met for the first time with the architects ofUMMA Architecture and the technicians of Sostre Cívic for start the co-design process and define the building configuration collaboratively.

This has been the first of four workshops which will form the co-design process agreed between the architects and the project coordinators. The workshops are led by female architects (UMMA) and facilitated by the project coordinators and will address all aspects of the architectural project, from the implementation of the building and the urban conditions to its construction and cost, through the aspects of interior distribution, relationships between private and collective spaces, etc.

It is worth saying that, with the aim of being able to achieve the schedule proposed and agreed with the City Council, in the project of Palamós this participatory process has started from theapproval of the Basic Project and obtaining the required building permit, which was approved by the City Council of Palamós at the beginning of September. In this way, although co-design will be limited by this Basic, it will be done on a solid basis in terms of economy, legal processing and architectural project.

In this first workshop the pre-designed project was presented and the degree of adaptation and change that can be made on it, in order to respond to the specific needs and requirements of the driving group of users. There was also a first round of doubts, requirements and expectations of the group, and a survey was presented on aspects of the architectural project and ways of living, which the users will have to answer in the coming weeks. 

In the next workshop we will work on distributions of homes and shared spaces, as well as the uses of these. It will be an opportunity to observe the fit between the pre-designed project and the group's requirements.


What is the Basic Project like?

The promotion will be from 34 homes, qualified for official protection, distributed on the ground floor and five floors, plus 34 underground parking spaces. For now, the construction of flats between 39 and 60 square meters, from one to three bedrooms (modifiable according to the needs of the driving group), an endowment of complementary collective spaces and elements of passive conditioning for the interior comfort of the homes, which result in an A energy certification for the building.

Access to the homes will be via walkways and from a single vertical communication hub. The parking will be on the surface, located on the ground floor under the open porch. The building splits into two volumes that open towards the stream, generating an open interior space, with the character of a facade.
