Ethical Finances Foundation joins as a new collaborating partner of Sostre Cívic


The agreement involves the investment of 30.000 euros in the share capital of the cooperative.

This action is part of the impact fund for the strengthening of the ESS, promoted by the Ethical Finances Foundation and Barcelona City Council

Sostre Cívic is the first entity in which the impact fund promoted by Barcelona City Council and the Ethical Finances Foundation invests. As a result of this intervention, Ethical Finance Foundation joins as a collaborating partner of the housing cooperative after the contribution of 30.000 euros to the entity's share capital. This investment will allow collaboration in the strategic and financial development of the cooperative, supporting, in general, its social objective.

David Guàrdia, project coordinator of the cooperative, believes that the incorporation of the Foundation will allow "diversify the governance of the cooperative and increase the collaborating members of Sostre Cívic". In the other hand, "provides technical expertise, since a Sostre Cívic we have important challenges in the financial field and the Fundació Finanzas Eticas will be able to participate in the spaces for participation and decision in this field. Specifically, we plan to incorporate it into the economy table, which is a space for economic and financial monitoring of the cooperative"

The agreement involves the contribution of both mandatory share capital to acquire the status of collaborating member of the cooperative, as well as the voluntary contribution to share capital within the campaign "Bring social capital and make our cooperative housing projects replicable and more affordable", launched in 2022 by Sostre Cívic. In total, 30.000 euros that will serve to financially strengthen the cooperative and help develop its daily activity. To David Guàrdia, this financing in the form of share capital "they are the cooperative's own funds and therefore strengthen our balance sheet. Sostre Cívic it has significant leverage and strengthening the cooperative's own funds allows us to grow and have a healthier balance sheet." 

The Impact Fund for the strengthening of the social and solidarity economy of Barcelona is promoted by Barcelona City Council and the Ethical Finances Foundation, within the ESS Strategy in Barcelona 2030. It was launched in 2022 and foresees temporary investments in entities of the ESS fabric with the aim of growing and strengthening the ESS fabric, to contribute to the socio-economic development of the city.


La Fundació Finances Étiques is the managing entity of the fund. Among its objectives is the promotion and development of the principles and good practices of ethical finance and the social economy, as part of the Ethical Banking Group.

Sostre Cívic is the main housing cooperative in Catalonia and Spain. It has recently received recognition from World Habitat and UN-Habitat (United Nations agency for the right to housing and settlements) by being awarded the Housing Silver Award of the World Habitat Award. The Jury highlighted the values ​​of social transformation and the multilevel impact of the cooperative's projects.
