The partners of La Mola come to live there!

Today the keys were delivered to the neighbors of La Mola, a building that we have rehabilitated in Terrassa to offer decent and affordable housing in the municipality


La Mola it's already a reality! The neighbors of the cooperative housing project of La Mola they already have their keys. The inauguration ceremony took place in front of the project building itself, built in 2015 and recently renovated, and consisting of 8 cooperative homes of between 30 and 57 m2 under a right of use regime, a model of access to housing as an alternative to buying and renting.

The presence of Luisa Melgares Aguirre, Deputy Mayor of the Territory and Sustainability area of ​​Terrassa City Council, representatives of Sostre Cívic and the Ateneu Cooperatiu del Vallès Occidental and the partners who come to live in the project, in addition to neighborhood organizations and neighbors, and friends and relatives of the future cohabitants. Melgares has thanked the cooperative for the initiative, and has affirmed that "we must move towards alternatives like this to be able to guarantee access to housing for everyone".


Recover disused assets to guarantee the right to housing 

The homes will be managed under the cooperative housing model in right of use: a model straddling ownership and rental, in which the ownership of the property belongs to the cooperative and the neighbors who are partners participate and enjoy it of one right of indefinite use, transferable and at a stable price. In the case of the project of La Mola, the fees for the use of the homes are approximately between €500 and €590, and members must make a partially refundable initial contribution of a maximum of €3.500. 

Yabel Pérez, member of the Governing Council of Sostre Cívic celebrated today during the event that this project has finally landed cooperative housing in Terrassa as "an alternative to access to housing to purchase and rent, which fights against speculation real estate, guaranteeing collective ownership and democratic management".

For his part, as a representative of the Ateneu Cooperatiu del Vallès Occidental, Simona Cerri he wanted to emphasize that housing is a key axis to boost the social economy: "Affordable and stable housing allows territorial roots and this allows us to generate synergies more easily."

The total budget for the promotion, including acquisition and rehabilitation costs, was €580.000, financed entirely with a mortgage loan from the Catalan Institute of Finance of the Generalitat of Catalonia.
