Walden XXI was born thanks to a group of revolutionaries who want to break with the current model of residences and propose a response to the crisis of care in old age from self-management, radically changing the ways of understanding and living this stage of life.

The project, which was born in 2018, wants to rehabilitate an old hotel that is currently in disuse in order to build on it 31 complete homes and a wide range of collective spaces which add up to more than 800m.2 designed specifically for the needs of the elderly (three multipurpose rooms, industrial kitchen, dining room, living rooms, interior garden, infirmary, physiotherapy room, workshops, concierge, laundry, changing rooms, office, storage rooms and garage spaces) . At the moment, bank financing has already been approved and the last technical issues are being finalized before the start of the works.

The aim is to offer an active, self-managed old age and at the same time reactivate disused heritage with a non-speculative, self-managed and non-profit housing model as alternative to commercial private residences and the unwanted loneliness of the elderly.

Do you want to be part of the revolution? We are launching a crowdfunding campaign to make this community housing alternative for the elderly possible and to complete the financing of the Walden XXI senior cooperative housing project in Sant Feliu de Guíxols. The titles to be purchased are €500 each, and pay 2,25% or 2,50% per year, depending on the maturity period chosen (4 or 6 years).

Help us build Walden XXI!

Walden XXI is one pioneering project in the country: the first cooperative senior housing project in Catalonia. We will make another way of living old age a reality, from community management, and we want to serve as a guide for other projects that want to replicate the initiative throughout the territory. 

After the purchase of the property in 2020, it was entrusted to the architectural team We are Habitat the design of the project. This was done in a participatory way with the driving group to design the private and community spaces of the future building. At the moment it already has theapproval of bank financing and we are working with the architecture team to specify the technical aspects of the work, which will be done with solidarity economy and sustainability criteria. The entry to live in the project is planned throughout 2025.

By purchasing participating titles you will help us build the Walden XXI building and you will be making one ethical investment in a project that seeks to transform the care model for the elderly in Catalonia.

We recover disused assets

We will rehabilitate one old disused hotel from the 70s located in Sant Feliu de Guíxols to build 31 homes and collective spaces.

An active, self-managed and communal old age

We propose a community housing alternative for older people who face involuntary loneliness and isolation, it puts care at the center and combines mutual help and independent living.

WHO ISSUES THE TITLES?

The Walden XXI project is housed in the legal form of an independent cooperative (Cohabitat Senior – Per una vellesa autogestionada, SCCL) which is the one that is making the present issue of participatory titles with the support and advice of Sostre Cívic.

HOW MANY TITLES ARE AVAILABLE?

From Walden XXI we make available 392 titles of 500 euros each. This collective financing will serve to complement the financing needs of the project's rehabilitation works.

HOW MUCH ARE THEY PAID?

Their remuneration is equivalent to the sum of an annual fixed interest tranche: 2,25% for 4-year bonds, and 2,50% for 6-year bonds.

WHAT IS THE EXPIRY?

You can choose between 4 or 6 years of maturity starting from July 9, 2023, with the possibility of renewal for additional 1-year installments.

WHAT IS THE ISSUE PERIOD?

Participatory titles can be purchased from May 5 until July 9, 2023, with the possibility of expansion.

WHAT IS TORNASSOL?

Tornassol is the platform of Sostre Cívic to finance cooperative housing through the issuance of participatory titles, which are a form of voluntary and open collective financing.
