Meeting of Partners of Sostre Cívic: a day of training and key work for the ladder jump

Community care, the challenges of the drought and the new rent regulation will be the themes that will open the day

The partners will address central debates of Sostre Cívic to prepare a change of statutes to adapt to a future leap in scale of the cooperative housing model

Next Saturday, April 20, from 10 a.m. to 17 p.m., Nau Bostik in Barcelona will be the scene of the second meeting of members of Sostre Cívic, an event that promises to be a day full of inspiration, learning and action for the more than 1400 members who are part of our cooperative and who are committed to our model of cooperative housing in right of use.

With a rich and varied program, the day will begin with training sessions on care models for community housing projects, addressing the challenges and horizons of a model in crisis, and exploring the challenge of water in cooperative housing, all this with ponents renowned as Silvia Bofill (professor of social anthropology at the University of Barcelona and participant of the Network for the Right to Care) i Blanca Valdivia, from the Punt 6 Collective. Also, in the midst of an emergency situation due to drought in the country, we will address the challenges of cooperative housing in right of use to implement water management strategies and systems that can provide an answer. We will have the presence of water rights activists like Isabel Palomera (Water is Life), cooperatives like Albert Sagrera (Organic Society) i samuel reyes (director of the Catalan Water Agency). There will also be space for the right to housing, with the Joana Rodríguez of the Tenants' Union, who will detail the most interesting aspects of the new regulation and we will talk about the future of the fight for the right to housing.

In the middle of the morning, the members will have the opportunity to participate in cooperative debates on proposals to change the statutes, reflecting on key aspects of the operation of the cooperative housing model of Sostre Cívic and working on concrete proposals for future General Assemblies. Rights and duties of each type of partner, the order of priority in the transfer of the right of use, criteria for applying the replicability quota and the possibility of establishing an update of the mandatory share capital. Present and future debates that begin to outline the strategy of the cooperative housing model of Sostre Cívic thinking about a future leap.

Before the community lunch, the day will continue with a socio-economic analysis of the more than 150 homes in a dozen projects that are already there Sostre Cívic and that they have been living together for some years. To find out their profile, the El Risell cooperative has carried out a socio-demographic analysis of the inhabitants of the different projects of Sostre Cívic for demographic, economic, labor, training, relational and community aspects. The report that we will present briefly in the session will show the results obtained from the answers of its inhabitants.

The day will culminate with an Open Space, with simultaneous sessions including a focus on the international experience of cooperative housing in Uruguay, a senior project meeting and a group generation workshop for those still looking to start a cooperative housing project.

This second meeting of members of Sostre Cívic promises to be a unique opportunity to connect, learn and collaborate in building a fairer and more sustainable future through cooperative housing.
