The Granollers cooperative housing is looking for members to live there

We will build the first cooperative housing in Granollers with 29 units on a municipal lot in Carrer Rosselló

There will be homes reserved for young people under the age of 35 and for citizens registered in the municipality

To make the project known to interested people, three information sessions are held between September and October

We continue to take steps to advance yours new project in the city of Granollers, called "El Cairó". After the allocation of the land by the Granollers City Council, and a few months of intense work on the definition of the preliminary project with the architects and the local driving group, we open registrations for new partners interested in to be part of this pioneering initiative in the city of Vallès.

In order to spread more details about the project and offer the opportunity to be part of it, the driving group ofEl Cairó will organize three information sessions in the city of Granollers. Two of the sessions will be face-to-face and will be held at the North Civic Centre, located at Carrer Lledoner 6 in Granollers, the Tuesdays 19 September at 18h i Thursday October 5 also at 18pm. For those who prefer to participate online, one will also be held virtual session on Wednesday, September 27 at 15 p.m. To attend, you must register in advance to guarantee a place in the sessions.

This campaign comes after the resolution of the public competition and awarding of the municipal plot of 800 m² at Carrer Rosselló 97, in the Lledoner district. The jury's report highlighted the economic solvency of the project, the management protocols and the sustainable and community vision ofEl Cairó.

The impact of this sustainable, community and inclusive project is evident in many key aspects:

  • 29 Cooperative Housing: The project will consist of 29 homes on three floors, with large shared communal areas, including a terrace with collective laundry and a multipurpose room open to the outside.
  • Community Vision: Sostre Cívic will allocate the premises on the ground floor to community uses and public activity, strengthening the community vision of the project.
  • Social Commitment: 8 homes will be reserved for people under 35 years of age and, in addition, to facilitate inclusion, the management of one of the 29 homes will be transferred to the City Council for allocation to vulnerable groups.
  • Environmental Sustainability: The building will be sustainable thanks to the use of ecological materials such as wood, the installation of photovoltaic panels and shared mobility projects with bicycles and electric cars.
  • Local commitment: 25% of the homes are reserved for people registered in the municipality of Granollers. The project also has the local support of neighborhood organizations and the social and solidarity economy, such asAteneo Cooperative of Vallès Oriental, The Vallesana Pomegranate (association of organic producers and consumers of Granollers which groups 400 family units) i Granollers Pedal

The cooperative Sostre Cívic encourages all people interested in being part of this pioneering initiative in the city to participate in the information sessions, in this way to be able to get to know up close how this type of housing alternative to renting and buying, at an affordable price and stable contracts for life. During the information sessions, all necessary doubts will be resolved before you have the opportunity to register. 

With this campaign, Sostre Cívic wants to demonstrate its commitment to the creation of quality and sustainable cooperative housing, outside the speculative market, promoting collective ownership and democratic management as a real alternative to access to housing in the city of Granollers.

Stable housing at an affordable price

The cooperative housing in right of use works as an alternative to the speculative market. The house can neither be sold nor rented, given that the property belongs to all the members of the cooperative who will be able to live there indefinitely. Everyone who wants to participate will have to meet the requirements for housing applicants for official protection and become members of Sostre Cívic (requests will be ordered by membership seniority). In order to contribute to the financing of the project, the partners who want to move in will have to make an initial capital contribution of approximately between 15 and 25.000 euros, refundable if at some point they decide to leave the building. The monthly fees, which are non-refundable and comparable to a rental, are expected to be approximately between €600 and €700 per month, depending on the size of the apartment. The final amounts will depend on the architectural project and final work budget.
