We present new tools and resources for cooperative housing

Last June 2 in the afternoon we did with the collaboration of Coopolis la online presentation "Cooperative housing tools", with more than 80 people in attendance and the presence of Josep Vidal (Director General of Social Economy, the Third Sector and Cooperatives of the Generalitat de Catalunya) i Alvaro Porro (Commissioner for Social Economy, Local Development and Consumption of Barcelona City Council), who opened the event.

The purpose of the event was to publicly present the latest tools and resources of cooperative housing which we have recently defined, to share them with the people and entities interested in this alternative model of housing: the collection of guides "We build cooperative housing” and theobservatory Llargavista.

Ponents of the presentation

Both are projects of inter-cooperation with other entities of the social economy, such as The RisellMatriuiLabSo i theDESC Observatory; and that is why we were accompanied by some of the people who participated in the different initiatives: Joan Manel Sànchez (iLabSo), Mireia Sierra and Andreu Camprubí (El Risell), Guillem Domingo (DESC Observatory), Eugènia Boada (Matriu), Anna Corrons (Can 70) and Lorenzo Vidal, researcher at the IGOP (Institute of Government and Public Policies).

Guides "We build cooperative housing"

The idea of ​​creating the "Let's build cooperative housing" collection of guides born in 2017 with the document The keys to the cooperative housing in right of use, in a framework of promoting the model, in which we detect that it is necessary to create informative content for the dissemination of cooperative housing.

The main purpose of this collection is generate knowledge and promote the dissemination in Catalonia of cooperative housing in right of use in its different dimensions, creating a rich and complete content, but at the same time comprehensible and synthetic, in order to achieve that the guides address a wide audience.

Collection guides

The collection currently consists of the following titles:

  1. The keys to the cooperative housing in right of use (in collaboration with Celobert)
    A basic manual on the model, to know its characteristics and the values ​​it promotes, so that people who are interested in cooperative housing as an option to start a new project can expand their knowledge.
  2. legal framework (in collaboration with the DESC Observatory)
    Its aim is to facilitate the understanding of the set of rules on different subjects related to this model of access to housing, to serve as a map and compass to navigate the complex world of laws.
  3. We transform the environment (in collaboration with El Risell)
    This guide emphasizes the impact that cooperative housing projects have on the environment, with proposals and tools so that these processes can be worked with local agents and integrated into local dynamics.
  4. The construction and care of groups (in collaboration with Matriu)
    The aim of this guide is to share tools for the creation and care of groups, and to emphasize the value of the collective to enjoy healthy, sustainable and democratic coexistence, communities and neighbourhoods.
  5. International experiences (various contributors)
    This is a guide that wants to make known 6 international experiences with a comparable and understandable content, which can serve as a reference and inspiration for people who want to create their own cooperative housing project in the territory.
  6. Care in the coexistence of elderly people (in collaboration with Can 70 and CareNet)
    This guide aims to accompany and explain the process of participatory planning and design of a senior cohousing community, where it is necessary to anticipate how care will be provided and organized, as well as to have thought and organized all the possible scenarios that the group may encounter in a future

Llargavista, the cooperative housing observatory

THEobservatory Llargavista was born in 2019 with the aim of knowing the state and evolution of cooperative housing in right of use throughout the country. It is a project driven by Sostre Cívic, with the collaboration d'The Risell i iLabSo and the participation of the housing sector of the Solidarity Economy Network (XES). It has the support and funding of the General Directorate of Social Economy of the Generalitat of Catalonia and the collaboration of Coopolis regarding the diagnosis and dissemination of data from the city of Barcelona. In 2020, the project has the support of Barcelona City Council.

Observatory page Llargavista

Llargavista makes one quantitative and qualitative analysis of the cooperative housing sector in right of use, both information linked to the people and coexistence units that participate and the characteristics of the building or project, as well as other elements of interest linked to the project such as economic and financial information or its social impact.

  • The main product of the observatory is a web portal with a built-in interactive map, in which all the listed initiatives of cooperative housing in right of use are shown, with information on each project.
  • We have also published the report Llargavista 2019, which does a more thorough analysis of the data collected this year. Download it at this link!
    The updated data for 2020 relating to the city of Barcelona will be published in an updated report that will be available, also online, on the Observatory's website in the coming months.
