We are opening the first cooperative housing project for young people in Calonge

He has born La Sala, a new cooperative housing project in right of use to Girona lands! It is a newly constructed building, previously owned by a financial institution, which we have rehabilitated it to make it available at cost price for young people under the age of 35 of the municipality On Friday 16 September in the afternoon, we publicly presented the project in the presence of representatives of the Calonge and Sant Antoni City Council; the Secretary of Housing and Social Inclusion of the Generalitat of Catalonia, Carles Sala; and the Cooperative Athenaeum of Terres Gironines.

Today, which is just over a year since the start of the rehabilitation works, the group of partners who will live there is almost complete and pending the final administrative procedures. The mayor of Calonge and Sant Antoni, Jordi Soler i Casals, addressed them during the event: "this is a project born from the illusion and the conviction that the administrations must contribute clearly to give opportunities to the young people of our municipalities. Now with the inauguration of these flats we make affordable housing available to young people.. "

Affordable and stable housing to facilitate the emancipation of young people

The project, with 14 complete homes and a large courtyard for collective use, is part of the strategy of Sostre Cívic de recover disused private property, to return housing to its social function from a collective management, with a public and non-speculative vocation.

The homes are managed under the model ofcooperative housing in right of use, who it also makes it possible for housing to have an affordable price: the fees for the use of the homes are between €280 and €400, and members make an initial partially refundable contribution of a maximum of €5.500. In addition, four of the fourteen homes are aimed at people with lower incomes, with lower fees and initial contributions.

The total budget for the promotion, including acquisition and rehabilitation costs, was €1.560.000, financed entirely with a mortgage loan from the Catalan Institute of Finance of the Generalitat of Catalonia, and with a subsidy contribution from €300.000 from the City Council of Calonge and Sant Antoni. In this sense, Carles Sala, Secretary of Housing and Social Inclusion, remarked during the event that "with this type of collaboration, the Government wants to favor the acquisition of housing by councils, public promoters, social promoters and social entities of the Insertion Housing Network to allocate it to social rent for particularly vulnerable groups".

A rehabilitation focused on saving energy and consumption

In 2021, the reform project, developed by the cooperative, began Celobert, with the main objective of rehabilitating the homes and common spaces so that they recover the conditions of habitability and use and equip the building with facilities and community elements, aimed at obtaining a greater energy efficiency and an optimization of resources through sharing them.

In fact, in line with the purpose of promoting more ecological mobility and reducing emissions, during the event the shared electric car of We are Mobility which from now on will be available in the car park of the building itself. The residents of the project can use the car at a cheaper rate thanks to an agreement between the two entities.
