Open day: Architecture as a tool for social transformation

Architecture can be one social transformation tool? What is the role of architecture in the current context of social emergency and collective struggles? And in gender roles? Next December 13th we will debate these and many other questions in an open day of reflection... don't miss all the details!

After the financial and real estate crisis, we are witnessing, on the one hand, an impoverishment and a galloping precariousness of all aspects of life, and on the other hand to an increasingly organized and combative civil society.

In Catalonia, in 2016 there was 22,5% of the population at risk of poverty or social exclusion in need of housing (according to Idescat data), and it is public and notorious that a large part of the rest of the living population difficulties in maintaining stable housing, caused, among other factors, by the increase in rental prices throughout the metropolitan area of Barcelona. Infra-housing is also increasing, a problem that we have been dragging along for centuries and that lives invisibly in our cities closer than we imagine.

All these phenomena have put the way of conceiving architecture at the center of the debate, and have given way to a new architectural discourse: conscious and committed to the participation and empowerment of people, the defense of the public and fostered in economic and ecological rationality. We live in dramatic but at the same time exciting times because we are now asking ourselves questions that have never been asked before.

Next December 13, we will ask ourselves some of the big questions around the role of architecture in struggles and social transformation, in a day of shared reflections to respond to all these new challenges and discourses.

We will have the participation of Joan Vitoria, from the cooperative The red balloon; Arnau Andrés, from Lacol cooperative; the Maria Morillo, of the project echo.

We look forward to seeing you!
