It is intended to rehabilitate the old hotel Solterra to build 30 apartments with shared spaces for the elderly in a rural setting.

We open registrations to enter the driving group that will make one a reality new senior cooperative housing project in Sant Hilari Sacalm, in the Selva region! 

The aim is to convert the old hotel Solterra, which gives its name to the project, en 30-35 complete accommodations (with kitchen, living room, bathroom, bedrooms...) and different complementary collective spaces for the use of the whole community. It is a building from 1954 that is currently in disuse and requires comprehensive rehabilitation, although structurally and constructively it does not present serious pathologies.

A project born thanks to the initiative of the partners themselves

It was the Sénior Rurals group of partners who detected the disused building in Sant Hilari Sacalm in 2021. They have known each other for five years before, in 2016, when they began to meet with the intention of starting to configure and define the project, while looking for a heritage to be able to make their dream come true. Find the hotel Solterra it has been quite a revelation that fits perfectly with what they had imagined: live their aging in nature and forming a strong network of mutual support between them and their surroundings.

Currently, the group is made up of 15 coexistence units and already a contract has been signed. In addition, an architectural team has been hired (DATAAE and Les Golfes offices) to carry out an architectural study and a fitting proposal for the reform project. It is now when they want to open the group to new additions to finish defining the project together and succeed in making it a reality in the coming years.

Senior cooperative housing as an alternative to residences

Cooperative senior housing is the answer from the cooperative social economy to the crisis of care in old age: a alternative community housing for the elderly with common and private spaces, which allows old age to be lived in a self-managed way and with the participation of all the people involved in the collective project, to put care at the center.

A Sostre Cívic we count, in addition to Solterra, with 2 consolidated projects of cooperative housing for elderly people, as they are Walden XXI (in St Feliu de Guíxols) i Can 70 (in the neighborhood of Sarrià in Barcelona) and other projects in the initial stage. The different senior groups of the cooperative are organized in the Elderly table, a space for coordination and joint work to face challenges and needs collectively.

Open registrations

This month the incorporation campaign opens to be part of the driving group of the project Solterra, during which several information sessions open to all interested persons will be held:

• Thursday 9 June at 17h. Informative talk in Barcelona (+ info and registration).
• Thursday 16 June at 18h. Online briefing (+ info and registration).
• Wednesday June 29 at 18 p.m. Informative talk in Sant Hilari Sacalm. (+ info and registration)
• Thursday 7 July at 17h. Online briefing (info and registration).
