From Sant Andreu's textile past to the desire to weave community: this is how we collectively chose the name of the project.
With the start of the works, Ca l'Ordit is preparing to fill itself with life: new members will join the driving group in the coming months.
El project of Sostre Cívic in Saint Andrew premiere name: Ca l'OrditThe driving group collectively chose it at a community day held on February 22 under the title The name makes the house!, a meeting where, beyond deciding what they would call themselves, they took the opportunity to continue weaving the threads of their future community.
A morning to weave bonds and imagine the project
During the day, the members shared a joyful and participatory time to get to know each other better: who is who, what moves them, what each person brings. They started by getting to know the artists in the group, the ones who make the best omelets, the ones who dream of the constellations of the universe and who they will turn to when their sink breaks. And from there, they began to dream together what kind of community they want to build.
Based on three axes—the history of Sant Andreu, the values of the project, and the fight for the right to housing—they began to generate ideas about which names could best represent them. Many, and very diverse, came up: The mixed one, The spinning wheel, The plot, Reblock, Can Colometa, The salad, The town… You can check out the full list at the end of this article!
After a collective prioritization process, we were left with three finalists: The Mixture, The Village i The WarpAnd finally, they chose what connected them most to the neighborhood's industrial past and the idea of community: Ca l'Ordit.
The warp, on a loom, is the base that allows us to start weaving. It is the weft that holds it together. Like the community of this project, which is already starting to take shape.
The works begin... and the group also grows!
In addition to making a name for yourself, the Ca l'Ordit project takes another important step: construction works began this April! It is a long-awaited moment, which brings us a little closer to making this cooperative housing for lease in the Sant Andreu neighborhood a reality.
With the works underway, now it's time to complete the group of members who will be part of itDuring the months of May and June, we will contact the people who were on the waiting list in the last incorporation process in order to make the new incorporations.
