Catalan cooperativism collects 9.000 euros in support of the Palestinian popular economy

Representatives of the campaign in support of Palestine at the Congress of 125 years of Catalan cooperativism in July.

The campaign of solidarity with Palestine promoted by Sostre Cívic with a set of Catalan cooperatives, it has managed to raise nearly 9.000 euros during the first phase of this initiative. The funds will be allocated to projects supporting the Palestinian popular economy, as well as the Palestinian community resident in Catalonia.

This campaign, which began last May with the manifesto "For human rights and peace in Palestine and everywhere", was led by a dozen cooperatives such as Coop57, Col·lectiu Ronda i Sostre Cívic. The campaign has grown to receive the support of more than a hundred collectives of the social and solidarity economy. This first phase culminates with donations from cooperatives and foundations that have contributed with their Cooperative Education and Promotion Funds or solidarity funds.

The almost 9.000 euros collected will be used for three key initiatives:

1. Campaign End the Arms Trade with Israel: led by the Palestinian community in Catalonia, which seeks to promote peace and at the same time started a micro-patronage campaign.

2. General Union of Cooperatives in Palestine: to analyze and disseminate the impact of the Israeli occupation on the Palestinian cooperative movement.

3. Union of Palestinian Women's Committees (UPWC): to strengthen Palestinian women's community and cooperative economies.

The manifesto, which can be consulted on the web withpalestina.coop, continues to collect adhesions and donations for this cause. The campaign does not stop here, as the driving cooperatives are working on a road map to help other cooperatives review their purchase and investment policies, to avoid collaborating with entities that violate human rights in Palestine or elsewhere occupied territories

Since Sostre Cívic, we are proud to be part of this initiative that highlights the transformative power of cooperativism on a global scale, showing that solidarity is a key tool for building a fairer and more equitable future.
