In line with our cooperative values of international solidarity and commitment to social justice, as he says principle 6 of the international principles of cooperativism, Sostre Cívic has launched a support campaign for Palestine together with other actors of the Social and Solidarity Economy of Catalonia. From the hand of Col·lectiu Ronda, Coop57, ECOS Group, The Olive, Arç, Azimut360, L’Apòstrof, CULT, The cabbage, knots, The Factory i The Invisible City,
we have launched in response to the growing violence affecting the Palestinian people, with a special focus on the role of cooperativism as a tool for resistance and reconstruction.
The Gaza Strip was home to 155 housing cooperatives, with more than 16.000 families, and many of these buildings have been demolished by the Israeli army. As of now, the extent of the attacks on the housing cooperatives and the number of dead and injured are not exactly known. In Palestine, housing cooperatives have been a key piece for many families, providing access to decent housing in the midst of an extremely adverse context.
With this campaign, the Catalan cooperatives want to highlight the importance of solidarity between towns and the need to defend the right to housing as a fundamental right. Just as we work for a cooperative housing model in Catalonia, the Palestinian cooperatives fight to build dignified living spaces, even in conditions of oppression and destruction.
In addition to denouncing the destruction of these projects, the campaign also aims to raise funds to help rebuild the affected housing cooperatives. Several activities have been organized, such as talks and awareness-raising actions, to raise awareness of the situation and promote active participation in this solidarity movement.
This is a clear example of how cooperativism, both in Catalonia and in Palestine, can be an agent of positive change, promoting values of solidarity, mutual support and social justice. from Sostre Cívic and Catalan cooperatives as a whole, we reaffirm our commitment to the fight for a fairer and more equitable world, where the right to housing is guaranteed for everyone.
For this reason, we encourage you to make a financial contribution, however small. On the initiative's website you have instructions on how to do them.
