Princesa49: for an efficient and zero-emission Barcelona

The award from the Barcelona+Sustainable network recognizes the energy-related renovation that was carried out in Princesa49 to promote one more energy efficient way of living.

On the one hand, in general terms, the fact that it is a rehabilitation without any extension of the building instead of a new work is in itself a great reduction of resources and energy and therefore a reduction in emissions. In addition, the rehabilitation carried out opted to take advantage of both the constructive advantages presented by the building and the thermal inertia of the enclosures and the use of the patio for a effective natural ventilation.

The project plays with two different performances that, combined, manage to reach the stage of one almost zero emissions building:

  • Improving the performance of the construction elements and materials of the existing building to reduce energy demand and, consequently, consumption.
  • The implementation of facilities that allow a reduction in greenhouse gas emissions compared to the current scenario.

You can find the good practice sheet Energy rehabilitation of a cooperative housing building in right of use en this link.
