Together with the City Council of Calonge and Sant Antoni, we promote the first cooperative housing project specifically for young people in the country The objective is to carry out the comprehensive rehabilitation of a building, until now disused and owned by a financial institution, to have 14 homes in cession of use by young people under 35 years of age in the municipality.

Work is currently underway on the rehabilitation works: each home will have a hall, two bedrooms, a bathroom, a dining room and also a kitchen with a laundry room.

We reclaim housing as a right
Like other municipalities on the Costa Brava, Calonge and Sant Antoni suffer from strong pressure from the tourist model which affects, among other things, their real estate market. In fact, Calonge currently has one of the most expensive rental prices in the entire province, at 581 euros per month.

One of the most serious consequences of this situation is that young people find it very difficult to access housing and end up leaving the village to be able to emancipate themselves. With the aim of retaining young people and offering an affordable alternative of housing, we are starting this project together with the local council, to offer the 14 homes 30% below the market price.

In addition, we recover disused assets and take land out of the speculative market with the right of use model, which guarantees the right to long-term housing.

What is the expected schedule?
Once the renovation works on the building are finished, the process of incorporating the new neighbors begins. The planned phases are the following:

• December 2021: the procedure to access aid is made public, according to municipal funds.
• Spring 2022: Sostre Cívic opens the application process for registration in the project and the selection of candidates. The main priority is to offer the 14 homes to those registered (a minimum of 2 years) in Calonge and Sant Antoni under the age of 35. If the 14 floors are not covered with this profile, the project would be opened to other profiles later, also prioritizing young people, although from other municipalities.
• July 2022: It is the expected date of entry of the first inhabitants into the building.
