This Saturday, November 23, at 17 p.m. in Plaça Universitat de Barcelona, ​​the movement for the right to housing has called a large demonstration under the slogan "It's over: Let's lower the rents". from Sostre Cívic, we join this mobilization to make our voice heard and claim that the right to housing is above speculative interests.

El Governing Council de Sostre Cívic has approved encouraging our social base to participate and join the cooperative blog, convened by the housing sector of the XES, which will bring together cooperatives and housing groups from all over Catalonia. The meeting point will be in front of the door of the UB Central, in Plaça Universitat.

The fight against escalating rental prices is key to moving towards a decent and affordable housing model. In this context, from Sostre Cívic, we reaffirm that the cooperative housing in right of use it is a transformative alternative that can help break with speculation and guarantee access to housing outside the logic of the market. But we know that this structural change is only possible if we come together and work collectively to confront the policies that perpetuate an unsustainable system. The unstoppable increase in rental prices is a direct threat that requires a forceful response from all spheres, and reaffirms the need to continue promoting a model such as cooperative housing in right of use, which ensures affordable housing affordable and permanently, outside the clutches of the speculative market.

By supporting this demonstration, we also remember the historic agreement between Sostre Cívic and the Union of Tenants, which seeks to lay the foundations for a new culture of the right to housing that does not go through real estate. That he considers that housing is a right just as defensible as health and education and that, therefore, it must be kept outside the logic of the market. 

Now, more than ever, we need our voices to be heard in the streets to demand structural changes that protect people above speculative interests. That is why we ask you to join this demonstration on November 23. We must massively join the movement for the right to housing, to demand that rent is not a slab, but a decent and affordable option for everyone. As partners of Sostre Cívic, we are an active part of this transformation and can contribute to making the strength of cooperativism felt in this shared struggle.
