Today, the keys to the first homes of the project promoted by the cooperative were handed over Sostre Cívic, with the collaboration of the City Council.
A second phase of registration is now open to all residents of municipalities in Catalonia who meet the HPO requirements.

Valls already has its first cooperative housing project in right of use: this morning representatives of the town council and of Sostre Cívic we have given the keys to their house to the first partners who will move into the newly renovated building.
The project, which it was publicly presented on October 5 of last year, is a property until now disused and owned by a financial institution that Sostre Cívic we acquired to provide access to decent housing at cost price. The building consists of 15 homes, 13 of which are cooperative homes between 39 and 86 m2 under the right of use regime and qualified for official protection. The rest and scale B belong to Valls town hall and the Catalan Housing Agency.
The homes assigned are part of the 5 preferentially intended for the more vulnerable groups that the real estate market leaves out (people under 35, single-parent families and over 65). In this line, Jordi Cartanyà Benet, first deputy mayor and councilor for Housing and Community Action, Participation and Equality of the Valls City Council wanted to highlight the social nature of the project and stated that "in a situation like the current complex real estate market, it is important for the city to have this type of housing, at reasonable and stable prices over time to facilitate access to housing for citizens".
An alternative to access to housing that is already a reality
The project is the first of Sostre Cívic in Camp de Tarragona, but the tenth that coexistence begins since it did so in 2018 Princesa49 (the pioneering cooperative housing initiative in Barcelona), currently adding up more than 130 cooperative homes in total.
In these five years Sostre Cívic we have become one of the reference entities in this ownership model with more than 1.100 partners throughout the territory and the impetus for 26 projects. Our trajectory it has recently been recognized internationally with two of the most important awards worldwide: the United Nations Housing Silver Award and the Social Innovation Award of the European Commission. All the homes we manage follow the cooperative housing model in right of use, a non-speculative alternative with collective and democratic management. A model straddling ownership and renting, in which the ownership of the property belongs to the cooperative and the neighbors who are members participate and enjoy a right of indefinite use, transferable and at a stable price.
In the case of the Valls project, the fees for the use of the homes are approximately between €230 and €550, and members must make a partially refundable initial contribution of a maximum of €4.200.
What is Sostre Cívic and how does the cooperative housing model work?
